Three Secant books have been named IPPY Award winners in this year’s international competition. The annual Independent Book Publishers Awards are open to presses and authors worldwide who are publishing for an English-speaking audience. Entrants include both large and small indies as well as university and foundation presses – which makes a very high hurdle indeed.
Kudos to all of the following Secant books, published in 2021, for their awards:
- Dragged into the Light: Truthers, Reptilians, Super Soldiers, and Death Inside an Online Cult, by Tony Russo. Silver Medalist: True Crime.
- The Henry Bagwell Story: English Adventurer, Virginia Planter 1589-1663 by Margaret A. Rice. Bronze Medalist: Regional Nonfiction (Mid-Atlantic).
- The Year's Best Dog Stories 2021, edited by Ron Sauder. Silver Medalist: Animals/Pets.
These titles all have a strong Eastern Shore connection, either by subject matter, the author’s residence, or both (in the case of several authors whose tales were selected for the “best dog stories” anthology).
In a contest where multiple medals were claimed by some of the largest and most prestigious university presses - including Johns Hopkins, Princeton, Stanford and many others - this is gratifying recognition.
