Secant Publishing is seeking high quality book submissions in both fiction and nonfiction. Our primary mission is to honor and add to the rich history and literature of the Eastern Shore and Chesapeake Bay. New and emerging writers as well as established authors will receive full consideration. Previously published titles that could find a wider audience with reformatting and republication may be submitted by authors who own all necessary rights.
In fiction, we seek both historical and contemporary narratives told with a fresh voice and a distinctive sense of character, time, and place. Both novels and short story collections will be considered. We seek works of enduring excellence and are prepared to cast a wide net as far as genre and styles are concerned. (Vampires and werewolves need not apply unless they can prove permanent residence in Delaware, Maryland, or Virginia.)
In nonfiction, we seek submissions in history, literary studies, biography, culture, and current affairs. We pay modest advances on acceptance, and we offer authors a competitive royalty schedule that incentivizes them to join us actively in promoting their work. We will consider simultaneous submissions if they are clearly labeled as such. We will report on submissions within 6 weeks and we will endeavor to publish accepted submissions within 6 to 9 months.
To be considered for publication, please send your manuscript in standard typed format, along with a self-addressed, stamped envelope to: Managing Editor; Secant Publishing, LLC; P.O. Box 79; Salisbury, MD 21803. Queries in advance of submission may be submitted to firstname.lastname@example.org but are not required.
Writers we admire
The same ones you do. Great nature writers like Rachel Carson and William Warner. Great novelists like Eudora Welty and Walker Percy. Great regional chroniclers like Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings and Gilbert Byron.
We seek authors and titles who deserve a wide contemporary audience. They may be previously published or new and emerging. They may be nineteen or ninety. Literary and journalistic integrity are the stars we steer by.
Who we are
